Apple iPod Classic 120 GB - An iPod Fan’s Review

Specifications: Like all iPods, the iPod Classic 120 GB is deceptively simple. A Toshiba 1.5-inch 120 GB hard disk allows for the storage of thousands of songs and hundreds of videos. This version of the iPod also uses the Click Wheel, like previous versions of the iPod. Navigation has been updated and is more colorful and user friendly. The new iPod also has a longer battery life than its predecessor.

Design: The Apple iPod Classic 120 GB retains the classic look of its predecessors, hence the term iPod Classic. Only a few minor changes have been made to this reincarnation. The iPod Classic is now enclosed in a slicker casing that is flush with the Click Wheel and the 2.5-inch plastic-enclosed screen. The metal back remains. It measures 4.1x 2.4 x 0.41 inches and weighs a mere 140 grams.

Features & Performance: Performance-wise, this model on par with most portable media players in the market. Naturally, sound performance is pretty satisfactory. Video quality is crisp when displayed by its 640 x 480 pixel screen. 120 GB worth of storage space should satisfy most audiophiles who like to keep all their music with them at all times. Battery life has been boosted as well, with more than 36 hours of audio playback and 7 hours of video. Other features include the ability to play games, a calendar, contacts, notes, an alarm clock and multiple clocks for different time zones.

Overall: Overall the iPod Classic has outstanding storage space with excellent audio and video playback. Its long battery life allows for a longer duration in between charges. However, the metal back still retains the gripe of the iPod’s past; namely that it smudges and scratches very easily. The brushed metal front however, feels sturdy and is a joy to hold.
